#Mycwgi101iwd2017, In "My Circle of Women and girls who have influenced Me", today is Dr Rhonda Britton, a woman of who is revered and feared.
She adopted Nova Scotia as her home over a decade ago. Dr Britton is the first female Pastor of Cornwallis Street Baptist Church, Halifax since 2007. The oldest Black Church (1832), in Nova Scotia established by Pastor Richard Preston to serve the Black Refugees who arrived in Nova Scotia.
Monday 28, November 2016, Pastor Britton, led a Black family meeting to discuss the violence and killings among our Black youth. As the Pastor in her community, people looked to her for guidance. Two weeks ago, she opened the space in their church, putting aside her sermon for the morning, and invite the congregation to have the difficult conversation, to mourn and grieve for their loved ones. They then took the conversation into the community at the request of the members. Thus placing the responsibility in the hands of the community to help find the solutions. She is not afraid to speak her mind even when facing public anger or outcry for supporting her membership regardless of colour, race, and ethnicity. She is always there for us, whether it's with the police, the family, businesses, politicians and the destitute.
She is an unapologetic Black woman who enjoys a good laugh.
